Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris

The Legend
of Chuck Norris

March 10, 1940 – March 19, 2026

Six-time world karate champion. Bruce Lee's opponent in the Colosseum. The face of Cannon Films' action decade. Cordell Walker for eight seasons. And, for the last twenty years of his life, the good-natured subject of the internet's most durable joke. This section tells the real story behind the facts.

Why a tribute section on a joke site?

Because the jokes only work if you know who he was.

Chuck Norris facts began in 2005 as a running gag about an action star whose on-screen persona was so unflappable that the internet decided he must be literally invincible. The gag stuck for two decades because the man himself was, by every account, the opposite of a cartoon: a shy kid from Oklahoma who found discipline in martial arts, built a competitive record that stands on its own, made a career in a genre he helped define, and spent his later years running a charity that put karate instructors in public schools.

When he died on March 19, 2026, at 86, fans came to sites like this one looking for two things at once: a laugh, and a way to say thank you. This section is our attempt at the second. It's written to be accurate, it is not a joke, and it's maintained by people who have been running this archive for a very long time.

If you'd rather laugh, the Top 100 is one click away. He'd have understood. He wrote a fact book himself.
